A new study has put their minds at easeA new study has put their minds at ease. Researchers determined that moderate doses of calcium (and vitamin-D) supplements do not raise women's coronary artery calcium levels. For this study, the researchers used "cardiac computed tomography" imaging to measure calcium in arteries in 754 women who were aged 50 to 59 at the time. The numbers showed that calcium scores were similar among women who took calcium (1,000 milligrams (mg) a day) plus vitamin D3 (400 international units (IU) daily) for an average of seven years, as well as those who took placebo.

What this means is reassurance that taking moderate supplements of calcium and vitamin D (which are very important nutrients) does not lead to calcium buildup in the arteries. Therefore, women need not avoid these supplements and sacrifice bone health over concerns about such a risk.40 Modern science has shown that higher blood concentrations of Vitamin D have been inversely associated with the development of coronary artery calcification in at least three studies. The ideal plasma levels of D have yet to be determined. However one investigation suggests that a Vitamin D concentration of at least 50 pg/ml may yield the greatest protection.

Here are the pros and cons of each of these three ways of getting more calcium into your leo's diet:

Gut loading

Leopard gecko owners typically gut load feeder insects with fruits and vegetables, dry dog food, fish flakes and corn meal. None of these are bad things to feed to feeder insects, but they aren't necessarily high in calcium. A high-calcium cricket feed (there are plenty of commercially made options) is one way to go, or alternatively you can use things that are naturally high in calcium such as turnip greens, dandelion greens, watercress, collard greens, mustard greens and endive. If you go with the latter option, the easiest way to use these greens is to put them in a blender first. This results in a wet 'gloop' that's really easy to feed to your feeder insects.

Dusting with calcium powder

Dusting feeder insects with calcium powder has the advantage of being easy to do: just put some calcium powder in a small bag, add the feeder insects, shake, and immediately feed the insects to your leopard gecko. Dusting does add calcium to the nutrition profile of the feeder insects, but unfortunately not all that much usually ends up sticking to them, and even that will fall off or get cleaned off by the insects if they aren't eaten immediately by your leo.

Supplying a bowl of calcium powder

There really isn't much to say about this method of providing your leo with a calcium supplement. There's certainly no harm in putting a little bowl of calcium powder in your gecko's tank, but there's no way to be sure it'll actually eat it. Still, you may as well provide one and perhaps your leo will take advantage of it.

Combination of calcium supplements

Cartilage components are also responsible for tissues in veins and arteries, tendons, heart valves, ligaments, skin, eyes, nails and bones. There are not enough molecules to carry Glucosamine to the urgent body parts. Hence, Glucosamine and liquid calcium supplements are easily absorbed to help in this process.

Glucosamine along with calcium reduces the effect of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. It is more beneficial if there are Magnesium and Vitamin D in the supplement. These enable the spread of calcium for repair, growth and maintenance of bone tissue. If these supplements had Omega fatty acids, then it would benefit cholesterol and blood pressure sufferers as well.

Calcium Supplements and Colon

One major function performed by colon is absorption of nutrients from food. Hence, this is a vital organ and any disturbance in its performance could mean suffering. Colon cancer occurs due to calcium deficiency. Use of liquid Calcium supplement can heal colon cancer during its early stages. This keeps the colon healthy and its functioning is efficient.

Thus, the body effectively absorbs liquid calcium supplements. If coupled with Glucosamine, Vitamin D, Magnesium and Omega fatty acids they can result in various health benefits. More so, these supplements have the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They are the perfect solution for people with joint and bone issues. The supplements will prevent diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Osteoporosis and colon cancer from happening.
