subject: One Of The Best Ways To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Is Through Microdermabrasion [print this page]

Stretch marks are defined as a kind of scarring on the skin that is of a different color than that of your normal skin tone, and is caused by tearing of the dermal layer of the skin. Tearing is most often caused by the extreme stretching of the skin as the name implies.

Times during a person's life when we are prone to developing these scars are during adolescence, and also during pregnancy for women. This is because the body grows really fast during these times, and usually, the skin is not able to keep up with the excessive growth of the body. Various changes in the person's hormonal levels at these times may also contribute to their susceptibility to forming these scars.

During these times when the skin is stretched to its limit, the dermal layer breaks and along with it, small blood vessels also rupture which causes the surface of the skin to appear red or purple. This is the first evidence that stretch marks may appear in the future.

Wounds of this nature are usually irregular which makes it harder for the skin to heal without scarring. Add to the fact that hormonal imbalances in the body may also contribute an impaired way of how the body repairs wounds. This would result to the stretch marks being permanently seen on the surface of the skin.

Since these scars are formed under the surface of the skin, it would be very hard to get rid of them on your own. Some people may try exfoliating their skin to get rid of surface scars. This may work for scars on the surface of the skin but it will not be very effective for stretch marks as you would have to go deeper in order to reach them.

This is why microdermabrasion is a popular method of getting rid of these annoying scars. It works by mechanically or chemically removing the outermost layer of your skin so that the underlying layer may be reached. By doing this, the scars may be removed so that your skin will be able to regenerate and look as good as new.

One disadvantage of this method is that it leaves the skin raw for some time due to the loss of skin cells. It will take some time for the body to regain its outermost layer and have added protection on the skin. The good thing about this is once your skin returns to normal, there would be very little or no traces of the scar left on the skin.

Most of the time, there is little tat you can do to prevent stretch marks from forming on your skin. This is because you cannot control how your body grows or how far your skin can stretch. Microdermabrasion is an effective method of eliminating these marks that you were unable to prevent as they physically remove any traces of scar tissue that may have formed.
