1. Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers: Gasol should have center eligibility in most leagues and should be the first guy off the board in any league that counts free throw percentage. In a head-to-head league, one could rationalize taking Dwight Howard if they're willing to punt free throw percentage, but Howard can really hurt you in the roto game. Gasol produces across the board and contributes in every category aside from threes. His assists numbers are well above average, and he had a phenomenal year rebounding the ball in 2009-10. If Kobe Bryant starts to break down physically, there's a good chance that Gasol becomes the focal point of the Los Angeles offense. He doesn't sell a ton of NBA tickets due to his lack of flashy play, but don't let that fool when it comes time for your fantasy draft.
2. Amare Stoudemire, New York Knicks: It will be interesting to see how Stoudemire fares now that he's reunited with head coach Mike D'Antoni. Amare is one of the most talented big men in the league and has produced solid fantasy seasons consistently throughout his career. He might not rebound the ball like you would expect, but he does an adequate job. He's a primetime scorer and could post a huge year as the go-to guy in New York. The Knicks did a lot to improve their team this offseason, which should give Amare the supporting cast he needs to thrive.
3. Brook Lopez, New Jersey Nets: Lopez is already one of the best centers in the game and one could make the argument that he should be taken ahead of Amare. Lopez posted fantastic numbers in 2009-10, averaging 19 points and nine rebounds to go along with a pair of assists and a pair of blocks per game. He's only getting better and compares statistically to Yao Ming's early career. Lopez is a big part of the Nets' plans going forward and could become a 20-10 guy this season. Even if he doesn't improve on his fantasy production, he's still a great option.
4. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic: Howard would be the first center off the board if he could shoot free throws better. There is no better source of rebounds and blocked shots in the entire league. He's reliable and can carry several categories, but again, the free throw percentage can be a killer in a roto league.
5. David Lee, Golden State Warriors: Lee was a fantasy monster last season with the Knicks, but it remains to be seen exactly what his role will be in Golden State. Lee is a master at the pick-and-roll and could see a lot of success if he develops good chemistry with point guard Stephen Curry. This season will tell us how much of a product of D'Antoni's system Lee was, which will really determine how valuable he is this year. He's a got a lot of upside in the Warriors' up-tempo system, but some sort of regression is likely.
