subject: Nicolas Cage-cnn Interview [print this page]

Evidently, even big time Hollywood actors are not exempt from making poor financial decisions. Cage is $6.3 million dollars in debt due to back taxes. He attributes his loss to his ex business manager Samuel J. Levin and is currently filing a lawsuit for $20 million for the damage that occurred while Cage relied on him to take care of his finances. Cage is now forced to put many of his properties up for sale including homes in Las Vegas, NV, California and New Orleans. He has already sold his Bavarian castle in Germany. That one had to be a very difficult but necessary choice. As if all of this wasnt enough, Cages father passed away 6 days ago of a heart attack at 75 years old. The press argues that Cage is a big spender and splurges on things like purchasing over 50 cars, two islands, haunted homes in New Orleans, yachts, a jet, comic books equaling one million dollars and more. He has also given over 3 million dollars to charities including the Red Cross.

Many of us have grown to love Nicolas Cage after seeing many of his movies throughout the years. He has starred in over 60 movies and has won numerous awards. His performance in Leaving Las Vegas was so profound that it earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1995. I personally think this is his best acting performance of all time. City of Angels and Moonstruck are also a few more of my favorites. Cage makes an average of $20 million dollars per movie. Perhaps making one more movie and saving some money this time might help offset his debt! Im sure he wont have a difficult time finding work.

Cage has turned down his share of movie roles. Here are some of the examples of the parts that Cage said no to: the Green Goblin in Spiderman, Randy The Ram Robinson in The Wrestler and the villain (Chudnofsky) in the upcoming flick The Green Hornet. Even though Cage is a decent actor he has also been turned for roles in hit movies such as The Breakfast Club, The Godfather: Part III (uncle Francis For Coppola decided to go with Andy Garcia the part of Vincent), Man on the Moon, Risky Business and The Perfect Storm.

Lets hope that good old Nick can bail himself out of this financial bind. Something tells me that hell be okay and that well see much more of him in the future. Hes worked as a famous actor for many years and Im sure he can find a way out of this hole that his manager helped to create.
