Rage Against the Chloramine
[print this page]
I watch DrI watch Dr. Oz every evening at five o'clock, and I do power yoga in
front of the TV at the same time. Anyway, he had a show on recently
about all the carcinogens in drinking water. So I decided to find out
what was in our town's water supply. It turns out that they use
chloramines to clean our water. Now, I guess chloramines are good
because they can kill off all that bacteria, but from everything I've
read and heard about this kind of chemical, no one knows for sure if
it might cause cancer or not. Aren't there other ways my town can
disinfect our public water? I thought to myself. I figured the best
thing to do would be to raise this issue at a Monday night meeting of
the town council, when they open the floor to residents. So maybe I
or one of my friends will do that someday soon. Now, even though I'm
sure the town council will pretty much dodge my questions and
ideas--they'll probably say stuff like "we'll look into that"--I still
feel like it might be the best way to educate our neighbors about this
issue. (Then again, I'll probably embarrass my kids because I'll be
on the local cable channel.) Another idea I came up with is to start
some kind of a petition online to demand that scientists or the EPA or
someone in charge really investigate the safety of chloramines as soon
as possible. My philosophy is that everyone should stay informed
about public safety and always stick up for their rights!
