subject: Chelsea Handler Tickets - Chelsea Handler Hosts The Mtv Video Music Awards [print this page] Chelsea Handler hosted the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12, and while the comedian is known for skewering celebrities on her hit E! show Chelsea Lately, the tables were turned during the awards show's opening sketch. Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan, fresh out of jail and rehab, confronted Handler as she made her way to her dressing room before the show. Poking fun at herself and Handler, who did title one of her books Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea, Lohan demanded to know if the VMAs host had been drinking before the show, reports the Huffington Post.
After the opening sketch, the first few notes to "Bad Romance" sounded and a band of bizarrely dressed dancers flooded the stage-but instead of Lady Gaga, Chelsea Handler appeared from behind a house-shaped mask to deliver her monologue. "I want to encourage everyone to be on their worst behavior," Handler said in her opening monologue, before adding, "It's time to acknowledge the big black elephant in the room. Where's Kanye?" Handler, a New Jersey native herself, made jabs about the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore and others before delivering the first award of the night, and with that, the VMAs were officially underway.
Handler appeared with The Situation, Snookie and the rest of the cast of the Jersey Shore later on in the night as well. MTV.com reports that Handler was persuaded to jump into a hot tub with the cast of the popular reality show during one skit, only to re-surface with a pregnant belly afterward! Another one of the hosting highlights occurred during a series of clips devoted to the Best New Artist category. The clips were made to appear as if Handler was hosting a meet-and-greet with nominees like Justin Bieber, Ke$ha and Jason Derulo. During the Jason Derulo clip, Handler sang his name back to him with the help of some Auto-Tune-like he does in his hit song "In My Head"-making for a hilarious segment.
A woman has only hosted the VMAs three times since the first VMAs were held in 1984, and the last female host was Roseanne Barr back in '94, so Handler will go down in female comedy history. When announcing her plans to host the 2010 MTV VMAs in August, Handler joked to the New York Times, "If there's one awards show that I should be hosting, it's probably this one. My personality probably wouldn't gel with the Emmys or the Golden Globes."
Handler's VMAs hosting gig came in the midst of her latest tour, which is in support of her latest bestselling book, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. Chelsea launched the Belvedere Vodka Presents Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang Tour back in March, but announced plans to extend her road trip in August. "I finished what was supposed to be my Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang national tour and realized I had left out half of the country. It would be neglectful to the rest of the pharmacies throughout the country to stop now," said Handler in a statement about the extended tour. Chelsea will remain on the road through early 2011 and fans will want to get Chelsea Handler tickets soon because they are always major sellers.
