subject: Facts About The Gold Mining In America [print this page]

America in the eyes of some people is the place where all the gold rushes begun. Gold rushes were events that took place in the past, when simple people dreamed about becoming rich over night. Even nowadays mining for gold is something that some people try by themselves. And they are right because USA is the fourth nation in the world in what concerns gold production. America is preceded only by states like Australia, South Africa and China.

One can say that almost all American states have their own history of gold rushes and gold mining. Even in Alaska, people discovered deposits immediately after the territory was acquired from Russia. But in a short history about mining for the precious metal, one cannot forget about states like Nevada, California or North Carolina.

You can say that it all begun in 1799, when by mistake a young boy found a big rock while playing. He and his family were unaware of what they had discovered. Soon after they found that the rock was extremely precious, the news spread and more and more people became interested in purchasing land in the area. The same thing happened to the founder of North Carolina Gold Mining Company, William Thornton. The real rush begun only when another discovery was made, the fact that there were rich gold deposits underground. However, because of the primitive way of mining, most of the precious metal was wasted.

Nevada is and has always been known as the state where people gambled everything they owned to become rich. That is true even nowadays, since Las Vegas is widely known for its casinos. On the other hand, there are many people who decide to invest their fortune and buy gold under many forms, like bars, coins, or all kinds of certificates. In the past Nevada was the place where the frenzy, the gold rush made people go wild and spend months, years digging for the precious metal. Even nowadays there are areas like Jerrit Canyon and Carlin Trend that make mine owners very rich.

It is said that people who chose Nevada to try their luck out, were heading at that time for California. The Californian Mountains are really rich in gold deposits because of their structure. Due to the fact that only a part of the gold in this state was discovered, and that specialists say that there is much more to be found, mines are still prospering. Even simple people venture by themselves in the hope of becoming rich.
