subject: Even Idiots Have To Wake Up Sometime [print this page] What is it you are searching for? What is it you are searching for?
When you set goals, what is it you are focused on? Do you find that the more you focus on your goal, the harder it seems to achieve?
Many people set a goal and believe it is the right goal for them. They analyze how they are going to get to their goal and take the necessary steps to carry out their plan, yet their goal eludes them. Why do you think that is?
Let me tell you a story about how I kept pushing my goal away until I realized I was focusing on the wrong darn goal!
For a long time I was stuck on money. I had a dollar figure in mind that I needed to earn per week and I created elaborate plans on how I was going to get to that number. Somehow though, I never got to that number.
Why? Because I am an idiot! It took me two years to realize I was completely focused on the wrong thing. I hope it doesnt take you two years to realize it. Heres my story.
I had a goal to be financially free, which means I had enough money coming in from auto-pilot sources to cover my monthly living expenses. I had that dollar figure pasted all over the place. had multiple streams of income set up to generate that income.
I read books by the best marketing and financial experts like Robert Kiyosaki and Robert Allen. I listened to audio tapes from people like Tony Robbins and Jack Canfield. I followed the marketing greats like Jonathan Budd and Mike Dillard.
I had all the right preparation in my mind but still I wasnt getting anywhere. Does this sound familiar to you? Do you know someone just like me?
Not too long ago, I finally woke up. I have to thank Jonathan Budd for that. He recommend the book A New Earth by E. Tolle and also launched a personal development project called Life Transformation Now. Between the two sources of information, it finally hit me that I was totally missing the point.
Even though I have heard the message hundreds of times before, it just never hit home. My goal isnt about making money. Its about adding value. It is about my purpose for being here.
I was so focused on what being financially free would do for me that I overlooked the purpose behind all of my actions. What am I contributing with my skills?
I needed to forget about the money. The dollars arent important. I will always have what I need when I need it. What I needed to be focused on was you. What am I doing for you? If I am not bringing you value, then I need to do something different. I need to keep working on my purpose until I do bring you value.
I have no idea why this obvious concept eluded me for so long but now that I have found it, I have found I am so much more focused. I am actually getting things done like creating courses and videos that provide value. Where I was stuck before, I am full of energy and ideas.
Are you stuck being an idiot too? Am I alone in my stupidity?
If you are focused on the financial outcome of your business, take a step back and ask yourself - What am I doing here? Are you adding value and focused on the content of your actions...or are you focused on how many potential customers you can get in front of today? Are you looking at numbers and results and forgetting about your purpose?
Wake up. Dont lose two years spinning you wheels like I have. Create value now and forget about the money. Money will come on its own if you provide the value. As Zig Ziglar often said - help enough people get what they want and you will get what you want.
