subject: Dvd Rental For Winter [print this page]

Winter is on the wayWinter is on the way. The nights are drawing in, the park and the beach are beginning to far less appealing (or they would if you could see them, what with the nights drawing in) and most of all it's cold and you want to stay in your house under a blanket.

In other words, for the sheer pleasure of not leaving your house, it's ideal weather for DVD rental.

But, even leaving this fairly obvious point aside, there things about online DVD rental which recommend it in wintry weather.

For one thing, the fact that DVD rental is generally agreed to be a winter pursuit leads the rental companies to issue longer DVD rental free trials in order to outdo each other and get more customers on board.

This works out well whether you're just sticking with DVD rental for the season or are in it for the long haul since the free time is right at the start of your DVD rental contract so you're getting the benefit and if you want to leave without paying anything you're free to do so.

The fact that some DVD rental sites don't do a free trial thus becomes a deal breaker. For example, any article entitled 'Is Blockbuster Online Any Good?' should tackle the question of the provider's lack of free trials.

Second, winter is the season of both Halloween and Christmas which have respectively given us some of the best seasonal movies ever made. These are films that one wouldn't necessarily want to own because they're only really appropriate to watch at one time of year.

Really, who wants to watch 'White Christmas' in April or 'Halloween: H20' in June?

The co-incidence of winter - the perfect month for DVD rental - and Christmas has another point to recommend it.

You might not think of it first off but DVD rental can make an excellent gift. It's one that keeps giving, over the whole course of the year if your pockets are deep enough, and you don't have to fret about wondering what the person will actually specifically want since they get to choose the films that they're going to have posted to their house themselves.

Truly, it is a gift for the indecisive, the lazy and the shopping addict: the three groups which are the hardest to buy for during the most magical time of the year and, come to think of it, at every other time.

So, finally, now that we've established that DVD rental are firm friends: which wintry films are worth a rental?

Here's my top pick: 'Winter Passing'. Its got Zooey Deschanel in it - and who can resist a fringe in the cold weather? - and its about an actress trying to secure the love letters of her novelist father to make a quick buck. Sounds cold doesn't it? That's why it's such a good winter movie.
