subject: All About Anime Video [print this page]

As long as there has been home video, there have been anime video releases. Starting with the earliest VHS and moving into the present DVD and Blue Ray formats, anime has kept its part of the market. Presently, fans are not kept so strongly to the realm of direct home video releases. The Internet and several on demand programs have started entirely new avenues with which to dole out the amazement of Japanese animation.

Anime has always maintained an awesome place in the minds of its fans. However, even in its native Japan, it had a sort of stigma going with it. People had assumed that anime series were somehow not thoughtful and were badly made. Nevertheless, real anime fans could see past this foolish belief.

With the generation of home film, every possible version of entertainment and documentary was quickly released. It is fortunate that this was around the same time that Mobile Suit Gundam hit the big time. Mobile Suit Gundam showed the world that Japanese animated television and movies were not to be taken so calmly. The franchise surrounding Gundam continues to be a staple of anime film into the present age.

Fresh video animation has been one of Japan's most integral methods of unveiling anime. While right-to-video releases are usually seen as a sign of failure, in Japan, original video anime is highly praised. If a program does not go to TV, a new anime video release makes positive of its distribution. With the combination of new video animation, well held fan favorite programming, and Internet sharing, anime video has a superb potential ahead of it.
