In an attempt to enhance its global image, one of India's premier management institutes, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), is taking steps to make its student exchange programme truly global. "We have tie-ups with about 100 B-schools across the globe. We are also in talks with several leading business schools in the US to further our exchange programme," Prof Trilochan Sastry, dean (academics), IIM-Bangalore, told DNA. "The idea is to give best international exposure to our students," he said. On an average, about 50% of the students studying in the institute get an opportunity to spend at least a term in various B-schools in 80 universities in 17 countries spread over four continents in a year.
Also nearly 70 students from over 100 institutes in 26 countries undertake a term of study at IIM-B. "Along with sending our students for best global exposure we are also hosting international students. We are making serious attempts to enhance the quality of research and Education at IIM-B," said Sastry. The management institute has formed a cell -- Student Exchange Committee -- especially dedicated to facilitate the student exchange programme. "The cell is entrusted with the responsibility of managing a perfect exchange programme for all post-graduate students. It also ensures that the students coming to our institution from various leading universities from across the globe blend in well with the rich academic and cultural environment on the campus," he said.
