subject: How to Measure a Computer Monitor [print this page]

With several sizes of computer monitors available, it will be easier for you to understand about their size measurements. If you want to make sure that the space in your room will be large enough for a large widescreen monitor or if you want to ensure the correct size for a privacy screen, it is important for you to know about the exact measurement of your monitor. In order to help you easily measuring a computer monitor, these are going to give you some easy steps that you can follow.

As the first step, you need to determine the area of the monitor that can be viewed. This area should cover the screen only and do not include the border around the screen or the plastic frame. It is because when you include the area of the border, you can potentially get an incorrect measurement. For instance, if your monitor has 17 inches or area that can be viewed, this is actually the correct size. If you measure the area including the border, you will get 10 inches as the measurement. So, you will get an incorrect measurement as well.

The second step to measure a computer monitor is by using a tape measure for measuring diagonally from the bottom left corner to the upper right corner of the area that can be viewed. Actually, you will not make any difference where you start to measure. What you need to do is just to make sure that you are measuring this area diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner.

The third step that you can follow is to measure for the second time in order to help you make sure that you obtain the correct measurement. So, by following some steps above, now you can start to measure your computer monitor easily by yourself.
