subject: Nintendo 3DS - Games & Technology [print this page] What Is The Nintendo 3DS? What Is The Nintendo 3DS?
The Nintendo 3DS is one of the mostinnovativeconsumer technology to be released soon, (We're looking at last quarter of 2010 or early 2011) and it's going straight into the hands of our youth. Featuring 3D technology that jumps from the screen and is viewed with the naked eye.
Getting to Know the Nintendo 3DS & 3D Technology
The display technology is powered by Pica200 graphics processor and has two screens.
The upper screen 3.53 inch screen and is the one which displays in 3D. The 3D screen displays a resolution of 800x240 pixels. Now this display technology is actually quite similar to those cups you used to get fromMcDonald'sor 7-Eleven that showed Spider-man from a couple different angles when you rotated the cup. The "different angles" will be your right and left eye, each getting half the vertical resolution of the screen 400x240, and the LCD display will "rotate the cup" for you. Thus providing full, continuous display of 3D glory and Spider-man can do more than the two-step.
The lower Screen is a little smaller at 3.02 inches with a resolution of 320x240 pixles and is not 3D. It is however, a touch screen display for more interactivity with most of the Nintendo 3DS games that will be released for the system.
Gaming is the primary design purpose for the 3DS but this is a "swiss army knife" of hand-held gaming systems.
It has been announced that we should be looking at Nintendo 3DS movies as well. You'll be able to watch top releases in full 3D on your own personal hand-held. We are also anticipating using the 3DS as an eBook reader. The previous version of the DS had this feature and we fully expect this on the 3DS as well. Web browsing should be amongst the list as it is WiFi capable. The system is also equipped with a user-faced camera. It is alreadyconfirmedthat this camera will be used for user face tracking but it is rumored that it may also be capable of videoconferencing.
