subject: Green Living Is Good For The Earth And Us [print this page] Living green is the process of restricting the impact that you have on the earth and the environment. These days, more and more people are looking into the green lifestyle.
For instance, they purchase air conditioners that do not release freon into the air, they buy refrigerators that are energy efficient, they use washing machines and dish washers that conserve water, and they use bicycles where they can to get around town instead of gas guzzling automobiles.
The earth is full of natural resources that seem to be endless in quantity. But, it is all an illusion. Every resource has its limits And with the population of the earth growing to extents undreamed of a century ago, it behooves all of us to do our best to take care of our environment the best that we can.
Whenever, we as humans, inflict damage on the earth we end up using up its resources at a faster pace than they can be replenished. For instance, in the middle to late 1700s, American buffalo were outright slaughtered in the millions. And, as a group, they were not slaughtered for food or for survival. They were killed for their skins and to make way for the railways. In Africa today, thousands of elephants have been killed by poachers for their tusks. And across the seas, sharks have been slaughtered by the millions for their fins. The fins are removed at sea and their carcasses are wasted and discarded.
As humans, we are caretakers of the earth by default. We are the only species with the intelligence to do so. But we have not done a very good job of actually taking good care of it. The result may well be that we finally go the way of the dinosaur and disappear from the earth.
People who are genuinely in earnest about trying to live green, are concerned about all of the resources of the earth. This includes the animals and plants as well as the environments in which they are found such as the earth, air, sea and oceans.
They have no trouble making the connection that the more fossil fuels that we burn, the greater danger we put the earth in. They know that the more we burn fossil fuels, the more we heat up the earth which will eventually cause great migration shifts due to flooding caused by rising sea levels. They can make the connection that the more of the rain forests that we destroy, the greater the chances are that we are also destroying possible miracle cures hidden in million year old plants.
Are you not yet living a green lifestyle, but would like to? If so, look at the choices that you currently make and determine how your current habits are affecting the earth's resources. Once you do that, you can begin to make the personal changes needed to protect those resources.
