subject: Finding Ways To Eradicate Termites The Easy Way [print this page] For many of us, believing that termites are munching their way through our properties is a little hard to believe. However, they are possible doing all this damage without the homeowner being aware until it is much too late. But when the evidence is there, it is certainly time to call in the exterminator to deal with the problem if any more damage is to be avoided.
These creatures are very odd indeed and it helps to get to know their habits to understand how the professional will eradicate them from the home and the surrounding areas.
What they do is build themselves a nest that equals those of humans relatively speaking. They tunnel away until they create rooms for the eggs, the new born, and yet more rooms for those who lay the eggs. Then they go out each and every day to find food to feed the every growing brood. But this now is where damage occurs because it is the wood in our homes that they are after.
Because they tunnel for kilometers away from the main nest, a way had to be devised to reach those far flung places without digging up the whole garden or surrounding area. What used to happen is that contractors would literally dig a trench around the house and fill it with toxic chemicals to poison anything that crossed there. However, this was such a hit and miss affair that a better solution was sought.
Nowadays, some several dozen tubes are sunk into the soil around the building at regular intervals. Since these creatures have to pass through these areas, it is the quickest way to get poison exactly where it is needed and this is where the clever part starts for sure.
These creatures have to eat as much cellulose as possible and take it back to feed all those in the colony. By attaching poison to the food, the creature takes it back without knowing that it will do harm to the colony. Once ingested, the poison quickly kills them off and the knock on effect is tremendous. Pretty soon the colony is decimated and they either die right there in situ or they retreat to where they can start another colony.
The contractors now monitor these tubes, or feeding stations, to see when the food is being taken, and by doing this, they can tell which side of the house is under attack. What they then do is to concentrate on that area in particular until the infestation stops.
Because of the way that these tubes are being monitored, the contractor can normally predict what will happen next. By entering all the details onto a computer database, and because the animal has some predictable traits, it is much easier to follow what they will do next and lay more bait where it is absolutely necessary.
Of course, this work is always guaranteed and the contractor will keep up the inspections while the infestation is active. The great thing though is that because the tubes stay in position, they can be baited again should more infestation occur in future.
