Perhaps one of America's most pressing issues today is the issue of obesity. Alarmingly,One out ofthree kids in the United States are overweight. This means that more kids are succeptible to develop heart disease and/or higher cholesterol, as well as diabetes. This means that our kids are at a high risk. It's safe to say that parents, while not all are to blame, must be held responsible. Think of the possible outcomes. In a few generations, it could betwo outthree kids. We have to do something to stop it.

My suggestion? Make sure your children participate in physical activities. Most families enjoy game nights. So why not make it a physical game night? My family is very active. I live with my boyfriend and his family. We all enjoy going out every once in awhile and competing in a game of kickball. Sometimes, we play baseball. My boyfriend and I go on walks everynight at a bay near my house. Even if it's something small, it's something.

The focus should not just be on our kids, either. What about the adults? Everyone in America is seen by other countries as fat and lazy. We could change that. Instead of stopping by Burger King or McDonald's for dinner one night, change it up. Go to Subway and try their Club Salad. Or even a healthy sub. Their club salad consists of as little as 160 calories, and around 4 grams of fat. It's making smart choices like this that will effect the entire outcome.

So what are YOU going to do about it? Are you going to continue doing what you're doing, or are you going to take a stand? As small as it may be, it helps. I am a firm believer that everyone can make a difference. Simply put, begin to take a walk every evening with your spouse, or your boyfriend, or even a friend. That's enough. Or eat a healthy salad once a week. You're doing your part. Any change in the way you eat or excercise will get the message out. It's about time we do something to change the world. And as silly as it sounds, we are...one step at a time.
