You may know a friend or family member who has lost a significant amount of weight on the HCG diet. The diet is based on the research of Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, a British endocrinologist who treated obesity in Italy for several decades.

His book, "Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity" is the foundation for the protocol. If you are considering the HCG protocol, there are a few HCG diet tips that can help you succeed.

The most important of all HCG diet tips is to read Dr. Simeons' book. It is critical that you understand the reasoning behind the protocol. The book is written in terms that are fairly easy to understand, and it will help you see why this is a treatment, not a traditional diet. It can also be called a prescription or a cure because it treats the physiological cause of obesity, unlike any other "diet" in existence.

HCG Diet Tip #1: In order for the HCG diet to work, you must follow the protocol exactly. Do not be tempted to cheat or change the rules. You may still lose weight, but not as much as if you follow the protocol to the letter and you won't be able to sustain your weight loss. Many have tried and failed to change the rules don't be tempted.

HCG Diet Tip #2: Keep the list of allowed foods posted on your refrigerator and a copy in your wallet for reference when grocery shopping.

HCG Diet Tip #3: Measure out your protein portions and freeze them in plastic bags, then defrost as needed. Divide ground beef into 3.5 ounce meatballs, freeze on a cookie sheet, then transfer to a large bag and freeze. Cut chicken breasts to 3.5 ounce servings and freeze in separate baggies.

HCG Diet Tip #4: To get ready for the upcoming week, clean your vegetables and bag them in the appropriate serving amounts so you can "grab and go." If necessary, label your foods so everyone in the house knows not to eat them.

HCG Diet Tip #5: Before you start the HCG diet, take pictures and measurements. Even if you never show the picture to anyone else, you will be so glad you have it to compare when you finish your first round of the protocol. Measurements are very important, especially when the scale isn't moving as fast. That usually means that your body is reshaping and the tape measure will show it. Pay attention to BOTH and you will stay motivated.

Following any weight loss plan can get frustrating at times. With the HCG diet, you will find yourself less hungry, less irritable and more motivated overall as the pounds fall off. Be sure to follow these HCG diet tips, and your frustration will be at a minimum and your success at a maximum.
