subject: What If There Is A Problem With Your CD Duplication Order? [print this page]

Now that you've paid for your CD duplication order, raced home, opened up one of the boxes, torn off the shrinkwrap, slapped the CD into your stereo, turned up the volume, and hit play... you notice a problem. Something is wrong. Now what do you do?

The first thing you need to do is determine ifit's an isolated problem or if it runs throughout the entire order. To do this, randomly select a couple of packages from each box and review them.

Next, you will need to figure out if the problem is a manufacturing defect orif it wasactually your errorthatyou didn't catch in the proofing stage.

- Warranty Policy

It is presumed that you chose to get your project manufactured by a reputable company with a warranty policy. To protect your interests you should always thoroughly review a company's Terms Of Business and Warranty policies before doing business with them.

- Don't Take It Personally

While it's completely normal and understandable to feel disappointed and frustrated if there is a glitch with your finished product, don't take it personally because noone at the CD duplication companypurposely tried to sabotage your product.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

CD duplication (and especially CD replication manufacturing) is a very custom process and, though uncommon, errorscan sometimes occur with custom produced goods.

A suprisingly highpercentage of errors are client-supplied. Don't forget it's the client's responsibility to make sure the supplied production assets are in final-form and error free. Common errorsinclude masterformatting issues, audio imperfections with the master content, spelling mistakes, etc.

- Print/Packaging

If the issue is related to the print/packaging of the order, you need to go back to your proofsand see if theerror was visible in the proofs that you approved. If the error is not on the approved proofs it classifies as a manufacturing defect and should be replaced by the CD duplication company at their cost.

- Disc Content

If the issueis related to the content of your disc you need to review the same Master discthat was used by theCD duplication company. If the error you are experiencing is not onthat specific Master disc it classifies as a manufacturing defect andthe discs should be replacedat no cost to you.

- Contact the Manufacturer

After reviewing your product, proofs and production assets, if you conclude that your product contains a manufacturing defect you should contact the manufacturing company and explain what you have found.

If you remain composed and business-likeyou will have an easier time dealing with the manufacturer, so don't becomeemotionalor hostile as that will not speed upthe warranty process.
