Have you been trying to ease morning sickness and nothing seems to work? It can be frustrating and dealing with the nausea and vomiting can really take a lot out of you.

Well you're not the only one. 50 to 90% of pregnant women are affected by this condition, which normally starts around the sixth week of the pregnancy and usually ends around the twelfth week. It can happen at any time of the day and night and is not isolated to just the morning.

It's thought to be caused by an increase in hormones in the woman's body. Some believe it's a sign that the placenta is flourishing and it's been proven that those who experience it have fewer miscarriages.

Here are some tips to ease morning sickness:

1) Eat or drink ginger. Ginger soothes the stomach and stops nausea and vomiting. Find a form that you enjoy. Various forms are shaved ginger, crystallized, tea, preggie pops, and ginger candies.

2) Cut a lemon or lime in half and sniff it. Many women find this helpful.

3) Reduce your stress. Stress can be a trigger. Take a look at what you need to get done each day. If your responsibilities are too large, ask for some help from a friend or family member. To relieve stress, take a walk in the park or take some deep breaths and relax.

4) Take it slow getting out of bed in the morning. Eat some saltines 15 minutes before getting out of bed. The crackers will settle your stomach and don't make any sudden movements that can be a trigger.

5) Eat more meals but eat smaller portions. It's recommended to eat 6 smaller meals throughout the day. Don't fill yourself up to where you are too full, or not eat enough to where your stomach is too empty. Avoid both of these to ease morning sickness. Also, carry snacks like crackers for emergencies if you start getting hungry.

6) Always keep hydrated. This will replace fluids lost due to vomiting. Fluids also give the feeling that your stomach is full, which can help to stop nausea. Don't drink with meals though. You can drink a half hour before or after meals. Liquids with meals makes you too full and can cause queasiness.

7) Take your prenatal vitamins with food or talk to your doctor about changing to different ones. The vitamins are important for the growth of your baby and also help to replace nutrients lost while vomiting.

8) Protect your nose from offensive odors. Your nose is hypersensitive at this time so avoid anything that may trigger queasiness. Stay away from strong smells, spicy foods, grease, frying and fried foods. Cook with an exhaust fan running or open the windows while cooking. If possible, have somebody like your husband cook for you when possible.

9) Use acupressure to relieve nausea and vomiting. Acupressure has been found to be extremely effective. If you can find the various acupressure points on your body and press them correctly, you can ease morning sickness 95% of the time or remove it permanently.

This technique uses ancient Chinese medicine and is different than our traditional western medicine. But just because it's different doesn't mean it's not effective. Again, stops the nausea and vomiting permanently for 95% of pregnant women.
