Garments have come a long way from just satisfying basic needs to an expression of one's own identity. Garments construction is one of the basic component of fashion. Knowledge of garment construction helps in designing, making it more practical.

Pattern: It is the term used for the two dimensional blue print of any garment design on the paper on the basis of which the fabrics cut.

Generally two terms are used for this- 1) Drafting and 2) pattern making

The basic difference is that draft does not have seam lines, allowance any other information or to speak in simple words drafting is the foundation of patterns.

Once a drafting is done, all the seam lines, indication, notches or any other special comments are marked. All these when properly marked into a draft it becomes the pattern.

Commercial Paper pattern:

A commercial pattern is vital part of sewing equipments. It is only the guide. Pattern manufacturer provides information regarding layout, cutting, stitching.

Present study aims to develop paper patterns of Chudidaar Kurta :A Need Based Approach for Women Entrepreneurs

.Keeping the study in mind following objectives was framed:

To develop design for Chudidaar Kurta.

To develop commercial paper pattern

To evaluate the acceptability of paper patterns.

The various steps undertaken are as follows:

Preliminary survey

Selection of the design

Development of commercial paper pattern

To evaluate the acceptability paper patterns.

On the basis of preliminary survey, 10 designs for the Chudidaar Kurta were created in Corel draw .Paper patterns were developed out of these designs. Guide sheets contains the following information-

Style number and size

Explanation of symbols like grainlines, foldlines, etc is mentioned,

Diagram of pattern pieces antheir n umber,

Notches and their joinings

Seam allowances seam finishes etc.

The study is aimed at on finding the relevant information about the study and discussion

With the help of tables in order to final shape to the collected data, It was statistically analyzed by the frequency distribution and percentage.

Evaluating the acceptability of prototypes

1) 82% like the idea of using paper patterns, 18% think it is not he good idea

2) 78% respondent find the ready patters is helpful in home sewing business, 24% don't think they are helpful in the business

3) Designs of the Chudidaar Kurta are liked by 88%; 12% didn't like the design

4) 78% women find ready patterns easy to sew and 22% say they are not easy to use.

5) 90% indicates that ready paper patterns are time saving and 10% do not find it time saving.

Conclusions:

This study reveals that in India most of the women inherited the stitching from the family. It is clear that very few women have the knowledge of paper pattern, but most of them wanted to know more and try this pattern because this can help them to enter in stitching business and to be a successful entrepreneurs.
