subject: How To Plan A Memorable Stag Do [print this page]

If you have the honour of being someone's best man, then your first major responsibility will be to plan a memorable stag do. Here are 10 steps to making sure it goes well.

1. SPEAK TO THE GROOM

Find out what he wants. You may not decide to follow it exactly, but it's a good idea to find out what's strictly off limits and what kind of high jinx he'd be okay with.

2. TALK TO OTHER FRIENDS

Sit down with other friends who know the groom and throw some ideas around. They don't have to be crazy ideas. You may decide you want to go to the races or go-karting in the day, before drinks in the evening.

3. THINK ABOUT WHO'LL BE GOING

If the groom says he wants his Dad or any other older relatives to come, then it may not be a good idea to visit a gentlemen's club. Also, consider the number of people who'll be going and how they know the groom. He may not want his work colleagues seeing him in any compromising situations!

4. CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS

Have a back-up plan, in other words. Stag dos involve a lot of planning and require a great deal of co-operation from the whole group, especially in terms of getting confirmation and money (see point 7) so there's always a risk you'll miss out on your first choice plans.

5. THINK ABOUT ALL ASPECTS

Do you need taxis or a mini-bus? How about accommodation? Will you need a restaurant reservation? The stag do may end with drinks in a specific bar or club, but there may be other parts of the day or evening that require just as much organisation. Make a list of everything that the day will entail.

6. CHECK AVAILABILITY

Make sure, whether it's the hotel, venue or transport, that they have availability on the date you need them.

7. GET CONFIRMATION AND MONEY

Once you know they have availability, you need to move quickly. That involves getting confirmations from everyone and assurances that you're going to get the money. If possible, get some or all of that money right away. It'll save you having to fork out initially for the whole thing.

8. BOOK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

As soon as you know numbers and have enough funds to do so, book everything up. It'll avoid you needing that back-up mentioned earlier and you won't be disappointed.

9. KEEP EVERYONE INFORMED

As well as chasing up money, stay in touch with the whole group and make sure they know where they need to be on the day of the event. They'll need reminders and you'll want to make sure they have your details if they have any questions.

10. HAVE A GREAT TIME

When you're there, it will be your job to make sure the itinerary is kept to. However, don't forget to have a good time. It's an important day for you too. Just make sure the groom is home safe and on time, plus that he still has his eyebrows.

Hopefully, these stag do tips will come in handy. The most important thing is to find the right stag party venue so everyone can be together and enjoy sending the groom off in style.
