subject: Usana - Network Marketing Or Micro Franchising? [print this page]

Network marketing is billion dollar a year business, and USANA is one of the most successful companies who follow a network business model. Network marketing can best be described as "micro-franchising." There is a low entry cost to get in, and there is high potential for generating a great deal of revenue and personal income. As with any business opportunity, success with USANA network marketing is based on how much work the individual is willing to put in.

USANA Health Sciences products are designed to improve health and quality of life through nutrition, diet and energy and personal care. Health and beauty is a billion dollar industry, and consumable goods are the best type of goods to sell, as they always need to be replaced. Providing consumers with quality products they will use again and again is the basis of success for USANA. For associates who move up and become directors, these consumable goods provide the means for unlimited earning potential.

While some network marketing companies (also called Multilevel Marketing or MLM) require a large up-front buy and demand that associates keep a certain level of inventory at all times, the USANA network marketing model does not. The minimum buy-in is around $30, which gets consultants a Business Development System, which maps out a path for success. Once you have signed up, there are no minimum sales requirements and the company will ship items for you, eliminating the need for associates to carry inventory and make deliveries on their own. Carrying inventory is costly and can usually deter people from trying their hand at MLM.

There are six ways to earn money with the USANA network marketing program:

Retail sales - sales made directly to the consumer. Associates set their own retail pricing, and profit is based on retail price minus the wholesale price

Weekly commissions - Individuals earn 20% commission based on the sales volume of the group they have signed up

Matching bonus - Part of the Premier Platinum PaceSetters program

Incentives - USANA rewards top tier associates with trips, cars, cash and other prizes

Leadership bonus - top directors are given extra bonuses on a weekly basis

Elite bonus - Given to top 25 earners company-wide

To help associates achieve success and move on to director roles, they are given open access to multiple training and sales tools. Their training center is online, accessible only to associates and directors, and provides training material, management services and ample free downloads. They also offer webinars and online conferences.

As with any MLM business, success can only be achieved through hard work and there is no easy path to riches. But USANA network marketing, with it's low buy-in, well-respected product line and extensive associate training program, gives individuals the right tools to succeed as they manage their own business from home.
