We had a very nice house, a family car designed for us and a life that was much better than some families enjoy.
I wondered if I would miss having my family in easy reach of me and visiting any time that suited me. There was going to be insignificant things to miss too such as scotch eggs with a pickled onion, the great fish and chips with mushy peas, the post office where the scales always needed to be adjusted when I needed to use and the school teachers that I greeted when picking up my children.
I couldn't let things like sentiment over cultural differences get me down and let my career slide and the US office market was priced effectively and if we were to move forward we needed to strike while the iron is hot. I let my family know that we had come to a decision to move to the US, otherwise we would be letting emotions getting in the way we couldn't let nostalgia get in the way of the business growth.
I had to make sure that the move was very smooth to help the children cope, I made sure that the school appreciated that our children needed to settle into a new town and a new country. We then decided together that this was the best thing for us and that helped the children to understand why we were moving.
We are now fully moved in and we are now in the US. I will now tell you why it was a great move for us and the best thing about living in the US.
1) The food is lush here. I did say before that I thought I would miss English food, you have to experience the food here it really is amazing in the US. I now tend to go to world famous restaurants with amazing service and are far better than the British equivalents.
2) The offices are so much better. We decided in the end to take Columbus office space and that was a very wise decision. We now get to use key facilities all in one place such as rooms fully furnished, great desk space and a meeting room that make meetings with clients and business associates much simpler.
3) The people are so friendly. Although we have the advantage of being an English family who are polite but we have found that the locals are incredibly friendly and can't do enough to help you. You will find that when you are shopping you get the special treatment regardless of whether your are spending big or just browsing.
That was just a selection of reasons why making the move to the US has been incredible and now we make more money than before.
