Baytril Dogs is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent from the class of the quinolone carboxylic acid derivatives. It has antibacterial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. It is rapidly absorbed from the digestive tract, penetrating into all measured body tissues and fluids. Enrofloxacin is bactericidal, with activity against both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined for a series of 39 isolates representing 9 genera of bacteria from natural infections in dogs and cats, selected principally because of resistance to one or more of the following antibiotics: ampicillin, cephalothin, colistin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, penicillin.

How should I use this medication in my dogs?

In dogs the dosage of this medication depends upon the weight of the animal. Baytril dogs medication is given to those whose weight is between 2.27lb to 9.07lb the dosage would be at the range of Baytril 5mg to 20mg . This medication should be given once daily or the single medication can be divide into 2 doses and can be taken within 12hours. This medication should be given exactly as it is prescribed by the veterinary doctor. Make a regular schedule for giving this medication to the dog and even if you forget give it as soon as your remember. This medication should be given at least for 2 to 3days continuously.

What are the possible side effects of using this drug?

Baytril medication may cause side effects such as anorexia, diarrhea, and vomiting. This medication may also elevate liver enzymes neurologic, ataxia, seizures, behavioral, depression, lethargy, nervousness. Beside this this medication may also cause Mydriasis, retinal atrophy, attenuated retinal vessels, and hyperreflective tapeta have been reported, loss of vision. Mydriasis may be an indication of impending or existing retinal changes.gastrointestinal, vomiting, anorexia, elevated liver enzymes, diarrheaneurologic: ataxia, seizures, behavioral, depression, lethargy, vocalization and aggression.

What precautions do I need to follow while using Baytril on my pet?

This medication should be used carefully in the dog if there is a suspension of disorder in the central nervous system. In such animals, quinolones have, in rare instances, been associated with CNS stimulation which may lead to convulsive seizures. This drugs is been related to the cartilage erosions in weight-bearing, joints and in other symptoms of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. The use of this medication in animals has been reported to adversely affect the retina. Such products should be used with caution in animals.
