subject: Where You Can Find Fungus [print this page]

Fungus can be seen everywhere we goFungus can be seen everywhere we go. However, warm and damp places such as shower rooms and locker rooms are where they are most commonly found. The shoes are also places where fungus would likely remain. It is dark, warm and moist at the same time and this is what the fungi are looking for. Many women can also pick up fingernail fungus from the beauty or nail salon if the instruments are not auto claved or wiped down with alcohol.

Usually fungus creeps to your skin through unnoticeable cuts and skin trauma. It may even reach your nail bed as it passes through the little space found in between your nail and nail bed. You may likely acquire an infection once your skin as well as toes are constantly exposed to a warm and moist environment. A little white or yellowish spot would first be seen on your nails. Once you see this tiny spot, you have to treat your nails right away. If you do not, the nail fungus could worsen until your whole nail will thicken and go brownish. This can even cause conditions like athlete's foot once it has already dispersed to the skin of your feet and hands.

Nail fungus usually starts at the feet because they are usually enclosed by your shoes, a place conducive for fungal infection. It is warm, it is dark and long hours of wearing shoes causes your feet to go moist from sweat. This is exactly why you have your toenails short and clean at all times. Short nails will provide less area for fungus to dwell in and hide. You also have to clean the spaces in between your toes. It would be good if you take off your shoes during the course of the day to provide ventilation to your feet. You must steer clear of wearing cotton and wool socks since wearing them could make your feet warmer. It may make them sweat some more. You should change socks every day. Open toed shoes would be more ideal if you wear them every once in a while. It would also be advisable if you wear slippers when going inside public lockers and shower rooms or perhaps go to public pools.

A decreased circulation to the feet is also one way for you to acquire nail fungus problems. As you know communication is passed through the circulatory system and so lesser blood circulation means lesser ability of the immune system to see the toe fungus starting to infect your skin or your nails. The fungus is therefore allowed to thrive in your foot or you nails until they create a problem we know as nail fungus and doctors refer to as omnychromosis.

So now you are aware of how to get foot and nail fungus.
