The profusion of banks and big businesses across Frankfurt means it has a skyline to match New York...indeed, Frankfurt has even been referred to as Little Manhattan', but there's nothing little about it. Two of Europe's top four biggest buildings are in Frankfurt, which really helps to create that special big city' feel. To really get to grips with Frankfurt's cityscape, head to Eiserner Steg Bridge at night, where you'll be rewarded with stunning views across the city.
One of the best ways to sample Frankfurt is to stroll through the semi-timbered sixteenth century Romerberg Square, where you'll find the medieval Romer' (city-hall). The six hundred year old structure is quite a sight and, after enjoying a coffee or ice-cream in the square, why not amble a few minutes south for a scenic stroll by the banks of the River Main, which will lead you to the Museum Embankment area.
This is a great area for culture vultures seeking their next fix. With countless museums in an incredible riverside location, such as the Museum of Applied Arts, the German Film Museum and the Stadel Art Gallery, you are more than well catered for.
And for shoppers, head straight to the Zeil', which is one of the most famous shopping streets in Germany, right in the middle of Frankfurt.
As with any major metropolis, Frankfurt has fantastic transport options, with Frankfurt International Airport among the top ten busiest airports in the world. Moreover, given the city's global status, hotels in Frankfurt are naturally always in demand, so you're best booking as far in advance as possible to get the best locations at the best prices.
So, whilst it doesn't quite hit the tourist radar in the same way as London, Rome or Paris, Frankfurt has more than a few tricks up its sleeve that will help ensure your visit is full of surprises!
