subject: Long Week End Away In Devon [print this page]

A weekend break was needed and I had booked a place in a town in Devon called Middle Hampton. I felt the desperate need to escape to somewhere peaceful where all that would be on the cards were unwinding, relaxing and taking in the beautiful surroundings. I would also spend some time with my loved one chatting about the unimportant matters whilst remembering the stuff that really matters.

The adventure started at the onset of the journey when I left my car in the car park at the train station at Nottingham. I caught the four o clock train to Central London. The next stage in the journey was a booking I had made in a tiny hotel near the station. The train rocketed through the countryside at an exhilarating speed. The carriage I had booked was right next to the buffet car so it was only a short distance if refreshment was needed. The architecture and indeed the scenery that the train passed was interesting and I loved taking it all in.

Once I had departed from the train I caught a taxi and went straight to my hotel 'The Duke Street Hotel'.

I loved this family run hotel, It never seemed to change, my family had used it for about eighty years. I always enjoyed looking at the intricate way the large windows had been made and the carvings ,were clearly done by hand. They had been done in a time when people had the skill to do them.

We woke the next morning to strong breakfast tea, and enjoyed a tasty traditional breakfast. This was just what we needed to start our day off with a dash across London to Western train station where we embarked on the Riviera Express bound for Devon and a relaxing time.

We arrived at Dartmoor bang on time and already I could sense that the air was cleaner and less polluted with the sea air giving it a decidedly holiday feel. A short ride in a taxi and we found ourselves welcomed by a portly lady who welcomed us in, "Come and try some of homemade cake" she beckoned us in and asked us to choose a place amongst one of the farmhouse tables that were attractively placed in the dining room.

Later when we were shown our room , and when we had unpacked our bags, hung our clothes up in the pine wardrobes,I felt a great weight leave my mind,I was already starting to relax.
