subject: The Emerald Of Lake Tahoe [print this page]

It is a stretch of area with many attractions in it; Emerald Bay is an area that you can get the best out of Lake Tahoe. Emerald Bay is recognized as a National Natural Landmark by the federal Department of the interior and in 1994 the California State Parks included the surrounding water of the bay as part as all of the park, which in turn made Emerald Bay one of the first underwater parks of its type in the state, which meant that wrecks and various other items were protected on the bottom of the bay. This includes numerous Lake Tahoe vacation rentals so you will be able to find a place to stay here

Within Emerald Bay is Eagle falls which a place that has a few waterfalls situated there. It is split into two areas the lower eagle falls which can be access by roadside has a fantastic waterfall especially during spring as in the summer the ice and snow from the mountains melt, which reduces the waterfall to a trickle. It is split into two large cascades and the upper part is 58 feet whilst the lower is 82 feet.

To get to Lower Eagle falls there are two ways first is via a well kept trail that leads to and from the parking lot at Emerald Bay State Park down to the lake. The other way is for those who are more adventurous as it involves climbing down the rocks from the roadside at the brink of the falls. Although this is more dangerous for those who do partake in this way get some up close a personal views of the falls, but all in all this way is only recommended to those who know what they are doing.

The Upper Eagle Falls is much more smaller than the lower falls but still has a nice little water fall to see, it is 23 feet high so you can see the difference between the two. But don't let that deter you from visiting this less engrossed area. If you were to travel to here by car go early as this is a popular tourist spot and getting a parking spot will be more difficult the later you leave it

To see all of Emerald Bay one of the best way is by taking either the Tahoe Queen or M.S. Dixie Cruises. On these you will be able to sample an authentic look at the best Lake Tahoe has to offer. On both you will be able to sample breathtaking views, local cuisine and live music so you definitely will be entertained one way or another.

Emerald Bay also is an area where the only island inn Lake Tahoe is located. It is called Fannette and it is a small little island with a lot of personality. Here you will find relics of the old Tea House which was built by the same person who built by the same person who built the Vikingsholm. The Vikingsholm is a luxurious historic house that open to display tom everyone.
