Located in Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is one of the most famous wildlife destinations of India. Once the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the Park is a paradise for wildlife lovers. It is located around 130 km from Jaipur in Sawai Madhopur district. It was established as a Game Sanctuary in 1955 and came under Tiger Project in 1973. It was declared as a National Park in 1980. Covering an area of 392 sq km, its landscape consists of thick tropical dry forest, open bush land, rocky terrain, lakes and streams.

This Park is a home to a wide variety of wildlife including colorful birds.More than 300 species of birds have been spotted here. Some of the enchanting wildlife species found here are Indian black boar graze with gay abandon, tiger, nilgai, leopard, deer, barking dog etc. Wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world come here to experience its wilderness. Apart from wildlife this Park also offers other attractions like Ranthambore Fort which dates back to 944 AD. Built by a Chauhan ruler, it is among the oldest forts of India. This majestic fort is located on a hill in the center of the Park. According to the legend around ten thousand women committed Jauhar( mass suicide) in this fort in 1381 AD to protect themselves from being dishonored from the victorious opponent. This fort has witnessed several fierce battles.

The only way to reach the fort is through a flight of stairs starting from the foot of the hill and leading up to the fort. It offers a fabulous view of the Park. The fort houses several wonderful monuments and buildings. There are some temples inside the fort where the devotees still come to take blessings. According to historic records even the great Mughal emperor Akbar lived in this fort in the 16th century.

Wherever you go inside the fort you will be greeted with picturesque views of the surroundings. The interiors of the fort still retain their old-world charm and speak volumes about the great craftsmanship of that era. Hammir court is one of the major attractions of the fort which must not be missed.
