subject: Nintendo Nes Games - Worth 1000's Of Dollars [print this page]

Did you know video games are as collectible as baseball cards? There are collectors out there who buy pretty much any video game or video game console ever made. So what makes certain video games collectible and some not so much.

For the purpose of this article we will analyze a Nintendo NES game Stadium Events. This is probably in the top ten of the rarest games out on the market for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The reason this game may come to mind, is the fact it recently sold on eBay. This game complete in the box, meaning it included the original game box, instructions, and the game. It also came with a Nintendo NES console and a few other games, it sold for a whopping $13,000. Apparently the person selling this auction got this game on eBay in a few years back. The seller they bought it from apparently had no idea what it was.

Why did this game sell for so much? To this date there have only been 2000 copies of this game ever made. With that number believed to have dwindled to about 200 copies still out there today. If you compare those numbers to say, super mario bros 3, which sold about 18 million copies. There is a huge difference between the two. Looking back, Stadium Events probably wasn't that great of a game at the time of release. So this could be an apparent reason for the low number of copies made. For the collector's side of it, this is a super rare game and definitely a staple in any collection.

With all this information being said, some of the more popular titles on the NES console; can't even compare with the price tag of stadium events. Many popular titles like Super Mario Bros 3 with estimate of 18 million copies sold won't fetch more than $10 on today's market. These more popular titles still are very easy to find and buy in today's market; since they had huge production of these titles. The only reason the price for Super Mario 3 may be higher than say duck hunt, it is the game appeal.

There are many other titles of Nintendo NES games that have huge collectors appeal. From Bubble Bath Babes which was a mail order game, and sold less than 1000 copies. Another rare game only available thru mail order was Peek-A-Boo Poker. It was an adult themed game, probably not for the little ones, but a big collectible game. These games can get more resale value if they include the original game box, original instructions, and the game itself is relatively free from damage. So next time you just sell a game, just see what kind of resell value you really have.
