subject: Belize Hotels Of Different Types [print this page]

The tourism board of this small Central American country has a website with all licensed Belize hotels - which include guesthouses and groups of individual units - with various search aids. You can find a room on the coastal beach, in the mountains, near Mayan ruins, or in the inland areas where rivers and mountain ranges run through the jungles.

The country, once an English colony and then a protectorate, has been independent since 1981, with Queen Elizabeth II their ceremonial monarch. The official language is English, the population a rich mix of native peoples, descendants of the European settlers, and of the African slaves brought in to work in the banana fields and the mahogany groves.

With the Caribbean Sea to the east, Mexico to the north, and Guatemala to the west and south, Belize has all sorts of scenery, from white sand beaches on the mainland and the hundreds of islands and inlets to rainforests and rivers. The second largest barrier reef, many spectacular caves, protected wildlife areas, world-class sport fishing, and Mayan ruins are only some of the attractions of the region.

Accommodations range from five-star luxury hotels, where casual elegance and guided adventure tours are featured, to small groups of beachfront cabanas on private, remote islands. Guesthouses in the cities offer comfortable rooms and luxuriant gardens near shopping, restaurants of all kinds, and nightclubs and casinos. The Tourism Board offers a full list of all licensed hotels, and you can even make reservations through the site.

Jungle areas offer both highly civilized hotels and cheap, close to nature campgrounds and cabanas. Located within walking distance of major rivers, with arranged rafting and kayaking tours, wildlife areas, and hiking trails, there are many different regions to explore. Some Mayan ruins can only be seen by hiking into the tropical forest.

If you would like to discover the urban life of Belize, there is the Belize Bayview Guesthouse. With a large, private garden of orchids, mango and banana trees, and coconut palms, the Guesthouse is within walking distance of the entertainment center of Belize City. Restaurants, the Princess Hotel and Casino, nightclubs, shops, and all the charm of this gracious city are just around the corner.

Belize offers a wide variety of places to explore. With the Caribbean Sea to the east, Mexico to the north, the second largest barrier reef in the world, and many islands, rivers, mountains, this tropical country can take a lifetime to explore. Mayan ruins built on the beach or buried miles deep in the jungle are mysterious remnants of ancient times.

Belize hotels of many types open this tropical paradise to visitors from all over the world. An Internet search will quickly show you all the wonders of this intriguing country.
