Rock climbing involves a person climb various formations of rock, both artificial and natural exist. The main purpose of the rock climbing happens to be getting from down at the bottom to up at the top of the formation. The climbers normally look for climbs that have some challenge to them. This is the main reason that rock climbing is called one of the extreme sports. Most of these types of climbs can be very dangerous, making the climber to have many skills perfected.

Usually the climbing comes under two main categories. These categories are aided and free. With the free climbing the climber only use ropes for safety and not for climbing. In the aided ropes are used for climbing and security. The free climbing turns out to be the more dangerous of the two, but climbers also like it better. Most of the climbing excursions come under this category.

Included in these categories are various ways of climbing too. They are based in either the aided or free types of rock climbing though. On top of these various categories you can find either outside or inside too.

Bouldering is done keeping the routes short and low. Safety ropes are not used. If any safety precautions are taken at all, a boulder pad is positioned at the base of the formation or a spotter is used to tell the climber where the hazards are for he or she to avoid. This style of climbing takes place most likely indoors.

Free soloing involves a person climbing along with no protection. This could result in injury of death if the climber falls, because it is so dangerous. This form is a lot like the bouldering with the exception of the routes being much higher usually.

The solo aid version of climbing is free soloing except using a protection harness. No rope is utilized in this version though. Usually a climber will do free climb in the safe areas of the route and change over in the dangerous ones.

Indoor climbing is performed inside of a building of some sort. This form of climbing is popular due to the fact that weather is never a factor. This is great for perfecting the much need skills it takes to climb or to try a different technique. Many of the people who climb work a lot indoors to get ready to do a climb. The indoor climbing has certain limits. Most of the rock climbers use the indoor climbing to work on the techniques and skills that they need in the outdoor climbs.

The deep water soloing is another form of rack climbing which is done without protection. This is somewhat safer though than the free soloing due to the route being right above some type of deep water setting. Is the person doing the climbing falls in this scenario they just land in the water, this reduces the chance of them getting severely hurt or dying.

You will find other types of rock climbing besides the ones listed here, but the above are some of the more popular ones. Many various methods and techniques exist that offer climbers a challenge. Various techniques get used to adjust to terrain changes in climbs too. Serious rock climbers need to learn many techniques for doing rock climbing. This will better equip them for tackling the wide array of climbs that are out there to try.
