subject: Garage Planning 101 - Increase Storage Capacity [print this page]

Garage planning can help to give you additional space if you add another car to your home or decide to renovate your garage into an extra room. Deciding if you need a one or two car garage can add appeal and extra space to your home. There are a few options to look at such as an attached garage or one that is separate from your residence.

Adding a one car garage will protect your car or truck from the elements and also raise your homes value, everybody can find use for an extra garage. Planning includes measuring what type of vehicle will be housed; measure for plenty of clearance on both sides to avoid scratched fenders and scuffed mirrors.

Garage planning may depend on the purpose. You may want it to house a one car but it involves other considerations as well like the estimation for the type of car, the extra space for clearance of both sides to prevent the car from being scratched, and for some necessities. You may want your garage to be a space for extra boxes or things like bikes, or just an extra space for your kids' play area. You would not want to spend another charges the next you want to expand it again. Might as well plan for it now and measure the area to be occupied so you could include everything in your budget.

In doing the garage planning, you should tell the planner what your desired design is. They can make you a quick draft of the garage based on your design. Then let them know the purpose of your garage. It may be because you are planning to buy a new car. Tell them the model of the car. It may sound being too familiar with the planner, but this is essential because not all cars are manufactured the same. They have to know if the car is large or if the car has high antenna so they could adjust the measurement of the garage as early as possible.

In building a garage separate from the main house, you will need the permit to build as approved by the local government. This is the reason why most of the garages are built attached to the main house. But if you prefer to have your garage separate from the house, you can ask your local zoning department so they will guide you of what to do to make the garage planning without hassle.

Garage planning should be decided properly. Everything that needs to be taken into account should be included while planning because, once the garage is built, you can only repaint it or rearrange the things in it but you can no longer rebuild it.

Sometimes garage planning just means cleaning it out and getting rid of old stuff that is cluttering it up. Many people tend to clean their garage when a new car is purchased or when a member of the family moves away to college. Plan a garage sale and try to make some money for costs associated with repainting, what you don't sell you can give away to charity, everyone benefits.

Garage planning may not necessarily mean building a new garage. It may also regard to renovating, refurbishing, or repairing the garage. It may involve some repairing and some repainting of the area. You don't have to spend so much money for the garage; just to make the garage safe, protected, and suitable enough to offer you practical benefits everyday plus the improvement in the overall value of your house.
