subject: So many new handsets around which one should i get? A guide to buying a new mobile phone or upgrading your contract [print this page] So what is a smart phone? So what is a smart phone?
A smart phone is one which offers advance functions which exceed that of a standard mobile phone sometimes refered to as a PDA.
Did you know In 1992 IBM pioneered the first smartphone which they named SIMON a concept at the time which has developed into a lot more than that leading to recent inovations in technology producing great handsets such as the Apple iPhone 4, HTC Desire ans Samsung Galaxy S i900 all fantastic examples of smartphone capability.
When upgrading from an older phone or coming out of a contract it might seem like a strange place to be. When I upgraded from my Sony Ericson k800i I was truly mythed after having the phone for so many years. Touch screen phones are all the rage at the moment! Most manufacturers have a side line of candy bar style phones but not half as many as they move to touchscreen enabled devices.
So it entirely depends what your looking for when you come to upgrade or get your next contract phone. I highly recommend reviewing the touchscreen devices but if your not keen on them it might be worth considering touchscreen phones which have hardware keyboards / keypads such as the Sony Ericsson x10 mini pro or Motrola xt720 Milestone.
Current 'normal phones' by normal I am referring to Candy Bar style handsets and slide or non touchscreen. Phones in this range include the Nokia 2330 Classic and Samsung Monte Slide amongst others.
So reviewing over the bottom line: the price, how much will it cost me to upgrade?
If your looking at going with a powerful smartphone such as the iphone or a high end Android enabled handset like the Samsung Galaxy s i9000 these can set you back anywhere from 200 - 600 compared with the normal basic phones which are much cheaper and usually under 100.
