subject: Why Do We Like Strange Things? [print this page]

We live in a world of increasingly bizarre, in a reality which is becoming more twisted with every passing day. Human nature tends toward involution at a speed that leaves room to black thoughts. Man gets habits of mutant, his self-destructive tendency is accentuated, he accepts things that were unacceptable to some time ago.

We love to see mutilated people or with different strains from birth, strange animals or at least with special attributes, accidents and disasters, natural or created from human negligence, we love to watch extreme sufferance. Just get bored if we don't live to the extreme. The period when we have been admiring a sunrise or a sunset or a quiet river which flows have lost in the fog of time. Now we want to see that river coming out of his riverbed and creating panic or floods, sure we will watch that event.

So why do we like weird things? From the wish to see something that can not be seen anywhere, anytime. From the need to break out of the usual daily habits, from the curiosity of the chicken which cracked the eggshell with its beak. Few of us like weird and strange things in order to become more immune to unusual things and perhaps more philosophers.

Over time, strange things are becoming more numerous as the human imagination is developing. Nose and ear rings, seen only in the jungle tribes 100 years ago, are now an accepted reality, almost normal. Tattoos, skull implants, hair dyed in all shades, each more strident, are not bothering anymore. There was even a tacit competition, a contest like "I am more bizarre than you..."

Some of these strange things and I've gathered on my site, weird videos. You can also check out this skull implants video for some chills up your spine
