subject: Electric Floor Heat [print this page]

When the cold winter winds reach your home, you need to rely on a good heating system for comfort. Electric radiant floor heat is such a system that is easy to install and operate. There are several benefits of this heating system that can save you time, concern and money.

Significance

1.Heat rises as it fills a room, so it makes sense that heating one from under the floor will warm a room quickly. Your feet are normally the coldest part of your body and if they are walking on a warm floor, your body will tend to warm up quicker. Central heating that warms from air vents above will warm the air closest to the ceiling first, which would work well for tall people. Most of us are closer to the floor when sleeping or sitting in the living room.

Types

2.There are two types of electric radiant floor heat. A system of heating elements provides the warmth in either cables coated with electrical insulation or mats constructed of fabric with the cables woven into them. Each of these is easy to install in the space between the subfloor and your flooring in each room.

Silent

3.There are many benefits to this type of home heating, two of which are its totally silent operation and providing complete comfort. An entire house may be heated in this fashion or you can add electric radiant floor heat in the colder areas of your house like the kitchen and bathroom. Warming the entire house in this way does not leave cold spots like a wood-burning heater or radiator.

Lower Electricity

4.The even heat distribution will lower your electric bills by enabling you to lower the thermostat but still achieve enough warmth. A boiler will last longer because of the lowered temperature as well.

Dust Free

5.A hot air system can create dust problems from the returning air of a forced-air system but a radiant heat system does not. Allergy sufferers enjoy the hypoallergenic features of this system and have less seasonal allergy symptoms. This type of system is also beneficial to people with compromised immune systems.

Aesthetic

6.There are no heat registers in the floor to arrange furniture around and the system is virtually invisible. There is also no noise associated with radiant floor heat as in forced heat systems so you never notice when it is on.

Cost

7.An electric radiant heating system is less expensive than a forced air system because it has no ductwork or heat registers. It takes less time to install, which saves you money on labor and total installation cost.
