Don't despair completely, though - retaking some A levels can be just the thing you need to boost your grades and put your plan into action.
Why take A level resits?
When you've just recovered from two years of industrious study and hard work, you might be worried that you're not in the right frame of mind to go back and do it all again. Of course, because you're resitting your A-levels rather than taking brand new ones, you already have the subject knowledge you need, so all a resit requires is brushing up on the areas you have difficulty with, organising your work and revision and learning all the skills you need to get you through the exams. When you take an intensive A-level resits course, you don't even have to devote the whole year to getting better grades:
* Shorter timescale - the A-level resits options offered by specialist colleges work on a much shorter timescale than the school year. That means you could go back to study in September and take your A-level resits in January. Alternatively, register in January and sit your exams in June. Either way, you have time either at the beginning or the end of the year to explore other interests.
* Like-minded study groups - when you enrol for A-level resits, you'll be with a bunch of people who all need the same thing - better grades. Working as part of a motivated group, you'll be able to study hard and enjoy a social life whilst giving yourself a better chance for the future.
* Dedicated tutors - learn where and how you can improve your studying, your knowledge base and your exam skills from dedicated subject tutors who have experience in helping A-level resit students improve their grades and their opportunities.
Whatever your decision, you'll find that the vast majority of students who do take the time to resit some levels find the experience to be wholly beneficial. It will help to prepare you for later life - whether your plans include university, an apprenticeship or the workplace.
