subject: The U.s. Healthcare Crisis - Two Sides To Every Story [print this page] Compared to other countries, healthcare in the United States is considered to be top notch but with all its accolades, not everyone in this country has access to medical care. Recently the U.S. government passed the Healthcare Reform Bill to allow all citizens the right to receive health care equally. However, not everyone is eager to embrace this new bill because they don't want to be financially responsible for those who can't afford it.
Individuals currently without medical insurance are hopeful and encouraged with the passing of this bill. Those who currently do not qualify because of pre-conditions or those who cannot afford the healthcare premiums are looking to this bill to solve those problems. The concern another group of people have are those who realize having everyone on a healthcare system is a costly proposition and that where the major concern for them lie.
These individuals are not only concerned with the costs that will be involved but also the influx of everyone being on the plan will cause delays in obtaining doctor appointments and their ability to get seen in emergency rooms when the need presents itself. They look at Canada and observe the time people have to wait for specialized test and it has them worried. Not all illness will have the luxury of putting off tests that are needed immediately.
Unfortunately there will be little help from the government on paying for this plan and many of the new government restrictions that will impose stricter rules that will benefit those who are receiving this coverage but in the long run will wind up costing everyone more. Something must be done to not only ensure that everyone can receive the health care coverage that they need but also to reduce the overcharges by insurance companies on the issues of medical malpractice and treatment costs to help bring down the overall cost of health care.
A health care plan will benefit many but with so many of us feeling the heat from a failing economy it can be difficult to see an additional expense as an overall good thing. The burden certainly falls on the government to make sure that this plan does not become something that benefits a few at the cost of many.
