subject: Underrated Historical Sites In The Usa [print this page]

If you take a lot of vacations, you have probably seen a lot of sun and surf, or perhaps you are the type that loves to glide down the side of a mountain surrounded by piles of fresh snow.

Whatever the case, there are times when you may crave something different to do, and when that happens, the same old resorts might not be what you are looking for in a vacation. Perhaps visiting a historical attraction would do the trick for you and your family ? why not give it a try? The trick is finding something that holds interest to you and your children.

Historical sites range from war sites to places where you may see what things were like over a hundred or so years ago. If you're traveling to the East Coast or nearby, you can drop by Pennsylvania, where Gettysburg is by far the most popular attraction. There is more in that state to see however, as you can find a replica of the 1800s complete with people dressed the part and living life as it was back then. These historical sites offer tourists a chance to see how candles are made, as well as 19th century-style weaving. If American history is your thing, then Gettysburg, or the state of Pennsylvania itself, is a nice place to visit.

Pennsylvania is the not the only state with sites of historical interest. A lot of these places are open to the general public, and can be found in places that aren't usually tourist hot spots. You can usually find homes of famous people from throughout history to visit, such as former Presidents, writers, artists, and recording artists. For example, how about giving Graceland a visit? Not only did Elvis have a huge impact on modern music, he is one of the most well-know personalities of the last century.

One of the best ways to find sites from history is to look around online. There are different ways for you to research, but you can do it by searching by region or interest. You can also try your travel agent to see what they have to offer you. Suggestions would include vacation packages that are geared towards historical attractions, or packages that allow for other unrelated activities. Regardless of your interests and that of your family, there are many options to choose from. Not only can you have a vacation unlike any other one you've had before, you can teach your children a lot about our treasured past.
