subject: Styling Your Own Hair [print this page]

If you're trying to save money on formal occasions or just running down to the supermarket for some quick shopping, an easy to do hairstyle is an important finishing touch on any look. The right hair can transcend a look to become a masterpiece. And with new hair care products on the market, doing your own hairstyle is easy and fun.

From French braids to chignons, hair that is piled up on your head can look either elegant or no-nonsense. Never try an up do with freshly washed hair. Clean hair is silky hair, and silky hair is difficult to hold. If you are starting with clean hair, use hair care products such as styling gel to maintain hold. You may wish to have a friend help you with arranging the style or holding onto accessories such as hair pins.

Once you've selected a colour, look for directions on the package stating whether to use a cream or liquid developer. Among these options, you will notice bottles numbered 10, 20, 30, or 40. If you are going darker or keeping the same shade, use the 10 developer for minimal damage. If you are going lighter, then you can increase the developer level by +10 for every 2 shades lighter you are going. So, if you are going 4 shades lighter, use a level 30 developer.

Only use dye on product-free hair that hasn't been shampooed in the past day. Put on some old clothes, and remove anything from your bathroom that needs to be protected. Open windows and turn on fan for maximum ventilation. Slip on your gloves, and join 1 part dye with 2 parts developer in the mixing bottle. Hold your finger over the bottle tip and shake it up until totally blended.

Starting from forehead, use tip to part middle and apply dye. Continue applying dye from forehead straight back in a corn row fashion. Once you have completed both sides, move to the back. Separate back hair into two sections and saturate hair completely. Assure dye is applied to roots, hairline, and that hair is thoroughly saturated throughout. This is where a 2nd mirror behind you, or a friend, will come in handy.

Aside from the versatility, GHD Straighteners can offer another advantage is the integration of infrared heat technology. The infrared can protect the natural oils of my hair and moisture within the hair strands so I can get a natural shine and protect my hair from drying hair. What is more, it also can retain my hair the natural colour.
