subject: Student Culture: How Can Student Media Develop You [print this page]

Student life is the most unforgettable part of peoples lives. It is a time of academic accomplishments, meetings with friends and, of course, preparation to the future career. A very good opportunity to develop your journalistic skills is presented by student media. There are four major types of student media. What are they?

1.Newspaper. Here students may train their skills in writing and editing articles of different types, in photography, management and administration. It is significant that such newspapers, as a rule, contain different kinds of information, not just news. Thus, if you are a poet, you may start being published. If you are a great mathematician or linguist, you may invent some quiz or even crossword.

2.Web site. It is also a kind of media since it provides people with the necessary information about the educational establishment. Students may write their articles, submit their photo reports. Of course, IT students develop their skills in programming, design, etc.

3.Radio. This type of student media gives lots of opportunities to those who want to devote themselves to this sphere. For example, they may train in news presenting, news writing. Students may also develop their skills in technology to support their student radio.

4.Student TV. Of course, this type of media is a great opportunity for different future journalists. For instance, students can obtain some experience working as news presenters. They may also try to launch their own student TV programs. Unfortunately, this type of student media is not very spread.

No matter what type of student media you will choose, you need to remember that all of them help you to gain the necessary experience. Moreover, you can become even more creative and committed! Do not be afraid to suggest and implement something new.
