The first thing you have to do when designing a invoice is pick what you think would be the best sales layout for your business i.e. Service, item, Professional or Time Billing, you can then personalize your invoice to suit your individual needs.

Go to Setup - Customize Forms - Invoices. When you are attempting to customize a invoice in MYOB it's important that you either choose MYOB plain paper invoices or a Pre printed invoice that you think will be best for your organization. In this example we are going to use a Service layout and MYOB Plain Paper Invoice.

The first step when making a customeized invoice is to click on the customize and then the MYOB default invoice will appear on the screen. MYOB makes there invoices have two types of fields that come default. One being a Text Field and the other a Data Field. Text Fields are fields that you can modify by re-typing, changing the font size and style. For example, where it says Bill To: you can double click on this field and re-type it to say Invoice To:. Data fields unlike the text fields can't be changed because they have been there from the sales invoice. It's important to know that you can change, delete, resize and re-position all of the fields in the MYOB invoices and you can also give borders to different sections too. Fields that have [brackets] around them are Data Fields and the ones without brackets are Text Fields.

Don'f forget! the tool bar at the top of the screen can be very helpful in assisting you with customizing your invoice.

don't know how to add new data fields and text fields or columns, this can all be done with the first tool. The second tool T creates a Text Field which you can position anywhere in the body of the invoice. If you need t insert a logo or a business header then you will be able to do with the 3rd tool. The fourth tool adds a rectangle on your form which can be made larger and positioned anywhere on your form. Hey want to add a couple random lines that make your invoice look totally individual and unique look then the fith tool can provide this for you, it will allow you to make both thin and think lines on your page. The sixth tool allows you to Undo your last action. Both the 7th and 8th tools bring forward or back forms depending on where you want them.

Working from a template is a more efficient way to customize your invoice. Draw up how you would like it to look and then customize each step until you complete the invoice. The Save Form As button is where you initially save and name your invoice and the Save Form button is used if you make any changes to your invoice at a later date. You do not have to complete the invoice all at once as long as you have saved the form using Save Form As. If you want to load an older form that you had been working on then just go to setup, customer forms and then you will be able to open an old form.

Don't worry if you get fuastrated with the creating of the invoice it can be a trail and error process, but you will always look back and think how impressed you are with your invoices. Be patient and enjoy your creativity!
