subject: Recreating Gel Candles For All Age Groups [print this page]

Making gel - based candles is fast becoming popular Any will surely notice that the variation between gel based candles and the regular ones is minimal with the way they are burned. It is just coincidence that the components constituting gel candles give it a bit of an edge.

Both candles share oil as one of its primary components. that have been mixed in with mineral oil. A certain percentage (5%) of the resin based polymer is stirred in with the mineral oil (95%). The byproduct of combining the two is a rock-hard gel form that differs in density (extreme, standard, and soft.) The difference in density is also the factor that affects the amount of aroma that the mineral oil retains. The higher it is, the more scented it becomes. If you gel is more thick, you will find out that the more stable the decorations are held together in the gel candle. Nonetheless, if the gel candle is thick enough, it would take a longer time for it to melt and it likewise hard to pour.

If you are attracted to start practicing gel candle making, there are procedures that you would need to study which is no different than that of making regular wax candles. Basically, the steps are similar, from the melting of the wax up to the placing the liquid in to a mold and left to dry. The difference would be found with the tools and some of the skills you would be applying with the method itself. For a regular candles wax, the most common thing to do is to liquefy it in a double boiler with the only drawback being that it is not compatible with gel wax or if it would, it would take longer to soften.

A better way to do this is to invest in a multi-cooker. This type of equipment is similar to your deep fryer with a non-stick surface. This makes it easy to get the fitting level of hotness while dissolving the gel wax since it has a warmth dial. It is quite a wonder because it allows you to heat water and melt wax all altogether. An imperative tip is to use your personal thermometer rather than rely too much on the temperature dial when you start dissolving the wax. Instead of wooden utensils, it is best to use solid plastic or metal when you stir in the wax to avoid bubbles forming in the gel. A word to the wise, be cautious since gel candle wax is easily flammable so it is best to have an extinguisher on standby. Remember, protection is always first.

To add some more life to your gel candles, you might as well use dyes to tint it in. Liquid dyes are a favorite because they preserve the glowing appeal of the candles. Another quick tip is to use the right and fitting amount of dye because using it in excess will not give good results. In truth, you would only need a few drops for a big batch of candles. If you are planning on using crayons, food, and clothing dyes, you need to hault! Crayons, good, and clothing dyes are all big No - no's. They were never intended to be used in candle making.

Gel Candle making is a great way of putting all your creative energies into use. Aside from the fact that it is quick and effortless to actually do, the finished product would showcase your own design and it makes a perfect present to someone. It is effortless to make, a great piece of Art and definitely is robust.
