subject: How Importers Of English Bulldogs Lie And Cheat Their Way To Profit. [print this page]

Alright, that may be a bold statement to makeAlright, that may be a bold statement to make. Though this is not the case with every importer, it is a very common issue. Numerous English bulldog importers buy puppies overseas for cheap prices and then sell them in the U.S. for three or four times the price they paid. This is done after many federal laws have been broken. Be aware and do some research. An English bulldog puppy makes a great new family member. One should always purchase a puppy from a well known English bulldog breeder. Buying from a reputable breeder will save the purchaser a lot of stress. In addition the owner will potentially save thousands in vet bills.

One of the ways these importers cheat the system is through lying to the U.S. customs regarding the age of the puppy. It is illegal for an importer to bring a puppy into the U.S. and then sell it to another person without that puppy having been given their rabies vaccine plus waiting a 30-day period of time. In California a puppy needs to be 4 months of age before being given the rabies vaccine. It most other states it will need to be 3 months of age. When you add to this age a 30-day waiting period before the puppy can be sent to its new owner, the YOUNGEST the puppy can be sent to its new home after being imported is 4 to 5 months old. And this is assuming the puppy was vaccinated at the absolute youngest possible age. And as most of you know, this if usually not the case. Typically things don't happen quite on time.

Importers easily circumvent U.S.A customs laws by lying and also persuading the English bulldog breeders to doctor the health certificates so they state that the imported English bulldog is actually a miniature bulldog. By passing off the English bulldog as a miniature version, the small size of an imported dog that is supposed to be 4 to 7 months and vaccinated, seems plausible to the examiner of the dog. I have had the opportunity to confront a Mississippi importer who is very prominent in the business and who has claimed on her website that she has imported scores of English bulldogs annually. This importer was not afraid to explain that everyone circumvents customs laws and that U.S.A customs actually is aware of the reality surrounding the importation of these English bulldogs. So what can be gleaned is that U.S.A customs officials are aware of such illegalities but allow such activities to continue freely.

Never purchase a puppy that is underage from an importer, even though it may be cheaper. A reputable breeder would not tell a lie about the puppy's age and fake vaccination records to sell a dog. If an importer would lie about vaccinations and the dogs age who is to say they would not lie about the dog's pedigree or other important matters about the puppy?

For peace of mind and for the sake of your pocketbook, buy a healthy, well-bred English bulldog puppy for sale from a reputable breeder directly. Don't go through a middleman. While there are some honest resellers. Many are in it only for a quick buck. Stick with a long time breeder who has a good reputation and it will serve you well.
