subject: Demand for Bed Bug Sniffing Dogs Exceeding Supply [print this page] By Stephen Bush By Stephen Bush
Bed bug infestation is a growing problem all across America and although it's a problem everyone would rather be without, it's creating quite a lot of business activity for some savvy entrepreneurs with their eyes and ears open to opportunity.
At the time of publishing this article most of the attention given to the bed bug problem, from a business point of view, has primarily been about exterminating them.
Now another angle has emerged from which entrepreneurs can make money, and that is in the "locating" of the pesky critters.
How, you may say, apart from the customary "having been bitten" method, can infestations of bed bugs be located? Well, with a bed bug sniffing dog, of course!
That's right, companies using specially trained dogs to locate bed bug infestations are popping up all across America and demand for them is currently exceeding supply.
In fact, there has recently been numerous reports of booming businesses for bed bug sniffing dogs and their entrepreneur owners.
For example, in a Sept. 15 publication of a Wall Street Journal blog there was a report of a Manhattan, NY businessman saying that he has to "constantly turn down work these days" and adding that his six bedbug sniffing dogs could "literally work 24/7."
This businessman went on to say that he thought he couldn't possibly do more business this year than last, but his business volume for bed bugs this year was already well ahead of last years total.
Such demand is apparently not uncommon in some areas of the US with more demand developing rapidly.
Clearly people are pretty demanding about not having any bed bugs and that's good news for entrepreneurs providing the services that meet those demands!
Anti-bed bug feelings are running so high that in some areas people want their homes checked for infestation even before they begin experiencing a problem. Other times people just want a second opinion on whether or not their bed bug problem has in fact been eliminated after the exterminators leave.
Since humans have only a 30% chance of seeing a bed bug infestation, using dogs to identify infestations has become a booming business with hotels, motels, and with collage and university dorms. It's also a booming business in the area of buying or selling real estate. For example, before people buy a home in areas where bed bugs are a problem they want to know the place is bed bug free!
To be sure, bed bug infestation is a growing problem and numerous opportunities exist right now in some parts of the US for services that address it.
Start up costs for this business can be quite low as compared to many other ventures and searches on the internet revealed several dog training services where these types of specially trained dogs can be obtained.
As demand continues to increase for dogs with this unique skill the supply of them will also increase; which represents another potential business opportunity!
With such strong demand expect many more entrepreneurs with bed bug sniffing dogs to be busy on the job soon!
