subject: Liverpool Solicitors File Hundreds Of Medical Negligence Claims Against The Nhs [print this page]

A Liverpool hospital is being sued for hundreds of botched bladder surgeries. An extension has been granted however by those solicitors representing the NHS so that all those who are affected by medical negligence can claim.

It is estimated that an average of 10 women a week are bringing a medical negligence claim against the NHS, after receiving treatment from a uro-gynaecologist consultant called George Rowland.

Medical negligence solicitors in Liverpool believe that up to 1,000 women in the Merseyside area would be eligible to sue Mr. Rowland.

Liverpool solicitors who are representing the Womens Hospital patients were treated for bladder complaints negligently in a variety of different ways. Patients were either given the wrong surgery or it was performed poorly, or even appropriate after-care was not given.

Liverpool solicitor, Ian Cohen, who is director of Goodmans Solicitors, a QualitySolicitors member, is the lead solicitor for women suing the NHS remarked:

We are still seeing a substantial number of women come forward and even over the summer we have been accepting up to 10 new cases a week.

Currently Goodmans represent just short of 350 women and we expect this figure to comfortably exceed 400 by the October 29 deadline, especially as Mr Rowland operated on approximately 2,000 women over the last 10 years.

The cases that we are now seeing relate to a variety of gynaecological procedures carried out by Mr Rowland over the last 10-12 years and are not simply limited to issues of incontinence.

The agreement which we entered into with the hospitals solicitors is working well and we are confident that this agreement will ensure that these claims are resolved swiftly and as cost effectively as possible.

The hospitals solicitors have, however, confirmed that this revised deadline to register a claim will not be extended unless there are very exceptional circumstances.
