subject: Designer Jewellery Makes The Perfect Gift [print this page]

Designer jewellery is the perfect present to give a loved one this Christmas with the festive period rapidly approaching.

Men are being urged to plan their Christmas present list now in order to get the women in their life the most appropriate designer jewellery and avoid buying an unwanted gift.

Research by an online dating and relationship organisation revealed that a quarter of men admit that their gift purchases are made in haste and that they did not plan their shopping.

Men who put thought into the designer jewellery they decide to buy are likely to be rewarded as most women are pleased with such traditional romantic gifts, according to a psychiatrist.

Dr Victoria Lukats said: "Research indicates that women are generally more pleased than men with the gifts they receive from their partners.

"It could be that men are better at choosing gifts, or alternatively that women are better at saying what they want, or maybe it's simply that women are more easily pleased and are likely to see the sentiment behind a gift."

Diamond expert Sarah Lewis has reminded men that it is important to do their research before buying their girlfriend designer jewellery.

She said: "The height and size of your girlfriend is important, as are her dress style and the style of any other jewellery she has, along with her likes and dislikes."

People not in relationship are likely to put their mothers first this Christmas as a survey by a lifestyle company discovered that over a third of singles plan to spend big on their mum over the festive period.

One single participant said: "Well I don't have a girlfriend, so there's no question about it. Of course mum gets the best gift."

Celebrity astrologer Russell Grant has said that mothers with a Libra, Aquarius or Pisces star sign will most appreciate designer jewellery as the perfect seasonal gift.

Research published by Disney Store revealed that designer jewellery topped the wish list of six per cent of people this Christmas.

Designer jewellery worn by Princess Diana to a performance of Swan Lake will go under the hammer this month at an auction in New York.

A diamond pearl necklace will appear along with a matching pair of earring and are expected to fetch in between $150,000 and $250,000.

A photograph of the Princess wearing the necklace was selected by People Magazine for the cover of its Yearbook 1998.
