The law of attraction is a concept that is based upon the very old philosophical idea that like begets like. This is the essence of the law of attraction. Simply put, the law of attraction holds the negativity draws, or attracts, negative energy and positivity draws, or attracts, positive energy. In this sense, the law of attraction has much in common with the idea of karma.
Karma holds that negative or destructive acts generate negative energies that impact upon a given person in future incarnations. Likewise, positive or creative actions generation a positive response that will benefit a given person in future incarnations. In a way, karma is something like a cosmic bank account. Each individual has the ability to deposit what they will in their own accounts. At the end/beginning of each round of incarnation, the account contents are tallied up and the owner is paid in kind during the next life.
The law of attraction posits almost the same idea, except that all the negativity or positivity effects an individual during their current life. There is no need to wait for your next reincarnation to be "rewarded" or "punished". In fact, there are no rewards or punishments. There is simply good or bad energies that are attracted to their own kind. It is a simple act of will on the part of an individual to decide what type of energy he or she wants to attract.
The law of attraction is completely rooted in the concept of free will. Every one of us has the choice every day to choose to move toward the light or move toward the darkness. The universe or cosmos really doesn't care which way we choose to move. Light and darkness, good and evil, negativity and positivity simply are. They exist because of each other and in balance with each other. The only effort an individual has to make is to choose between the two. Once such a choice is made, the consequences or, better yet, the results if that choice will be made manifest.
