*** Do Not Quit Smoking! Click Here *** Is it worth just 10 minutes a day for 2 weeks for you to stop smoking? In a previous article I explained the difference between the conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind where your smoking habit is stored. If we were to get a little technical your left pre-frontal cortex is where your logic stems from and this is where you will make your most adult, sensible decisions from. Once you let your right pre-frontal cortex take over the show, you land up with all sorts of excuses not to do what you want to do. The two parts of your brain begin an argument and I want to give you several ways to WIN. Why do you find it so difficult? The kind of excuses I hear at my clinic for clients not giving up smoking are many and varied. They range from "I enjoy smoking" to "I can't cope without smoking" to "they help me relax" to "I've tried lots of times - I know I can't quit" and so on. Whatever their reasons they would not be in my consulting room if they didn't want to stop smoking. These thoughts are just the "gremlins" of the sub-conscious mind which has no logic - it just wants to run your patterns without interruption and it's really, really powerful! But not too powerful for you to take control of with a little help. Getting your subconscious on side Let's look at how you can cope with "gremlins". Have you ever seen a child throw a tantrum? That's just what your gremlin is doing in an effort to ensure you don't stop smoking! The little devil will throw up all sorts of "reasons" - excuses actually - why you shouldn't quit. Now when a child throws a tantrum you have 3 choices. Choice 1: give in. What happens when you give in. Yes, you know the answer, the child knows that tantrums work and will throw them again and again to make sure it gets its way. Choice 2: fight. What happens when you fight? The child knows that it has got you on the run and if it just ramps up the tantrum some, you'll probably give in. Choice 3: ignore it. Tantrums tend to cease when you ignore them often enough... you just have to cope with turning your back and letting the noise continue. Not easy, I know, but absolutely essential if you are to teach the child that tantrums don't work. Start Here. And there's your first technique. Ignore those gremlins. Use the logical adult part of your brain to deal with the child-like part in a way that it understands. Go on, give it a go. We have lots more information to help you stop smoking so look out for further articles. We know that not every technique works for every person, so the more information you have, the more likely you are to find something that's just right for you and you'll never need to worry about those smoking bans or no smoking notices ever again.About the Author:
