Is anybody you know a Spanish speaker? California and Texas residents almost definitely know at least one person who speaks fluent Spanish. Statistics indicate that nearly 50% of all Hispanics in the United States reside in those two states.

In fact, I live in southern California and at least 25% of the people I know speak Spanish. I only know a few dozen words in Spanish, despite the number of Spanish speakers that surround me. In the near future, it is a fact I plan to change!

Have you ever wanted to learn Spanish? Learning another language translates to a great many benefits, and speaking Spanish may be even more beneficial than you know if you live in the United States.

The job market recognizes the value of Spanish speakers, making them a sought after resource for companies of all shapes and sizes. Communicating with customers as a Spanish speaker can immediately increase your potential customer base. What does this mean for you as an employee? It means a higher salary and increased marketability to employers. If you are not being recognized with the benefits of being a Spanish and English speaker, if I were you, I would entertain the thought of new employment. It could mean a substantial raise in your income!

If you ever escape to Mexico like so many southern Californians, you know that the street vendors pump up prices for their non Spanish speaking customers. If you speak the language you're probably going to be treated better, which equates to lower prices and better overall service.

Not only will you encounter better prices when you travel to Spanish speaking countries, you will also develop a better cultural understanding. Think about everything you've learned and opinions you've formed about your own culture through books. Now think about how much you would broaden your cultural horizons by simply being able read Spanish books and newspapers; you will be exposed to a new world of thinking and feeling.

Spanish is easy to learn as far as learning languages goes. Spanish and English vocabulary is very similar. Besides, Spanish is easy to ready -- even for a beginner.

Are you a people person? After you learn Spanish you'll be able to help the people in your daily life even more all thanks to your ability to communicate in at least two languages And visa versa: you can ask for help from people that you normally couldn't speak to.

If you need another reason to convince you to learn Spanish, consider the fact that you will be able to experience the heart of your local Spanish culture. There are a plethora of restaurants and clubs where Spanish is the predominant language spoken. You probably won't be going there if you don't speak Spanish. However once you know the basics, you will find it less intimidating to visit predominantly Spanish-speaking establishments.

Would you like to instantly expand the number of cable channels you watch? It's a real kick in the pants if you've never watched Spanish television! No doubt that the Spanish culture is thriving in just about every Spanish program. You might even be surprised as a first time viewer, if you really listen to what is being said! Spanish radio stations are on the same wavelength; the formats between English and Spanish radio differ drastically.

And I saved the best reason to learn Spanish for last: learning to speak a new language will immediately double the number of friends you have!
